Completing Your Towns
Submit towns through the Run 169 Towns Society website. Races completed before joining are eligible for credit. For those repeating the challenge (Round 2), credit is given for official races completed after the 169th town of round one. Members may also track their towns by other methods.
Recognition Along the Way
Individuals who complete an official race in all 169 towns are honored as Kings, Queens, or Majesties. Those achieving this feat multiple times are recognized as Double Crown, Triple Crown, and so on. Members are encouraged to celebrate all milestones, with as much advance notice to the Awards Committee as possible.
Elusive and Semi Elusive Towns
Elusive Towns are towns that had 1 or fewer official races available for all eligible ages in the previous calendar year. Semi Elusive Towns are towns that had 1 or fewer official races and at least 1 eligible multisport event. Town status changes annually.
Society Management
A co-founder manages the Society's website and database, while also overseeing the Facebook page alongside four other administrators. We also have volunteers who manage the Upcoming Races listing, and additional volunteers who coordinate the 100 town and 169 town medals when members reach those goals. All gear profits go to the vendor, and no Society member benefits from those sales.

These guidelines define what counts toward town credit. Tap each section to expand.
- Distance: The race must be at least 1 mile long.
- Location: Credit is based on where the race starts.
- Eligibility: The race must be open to the public and advertised publicly. It cannot be exclusive to 169 members. The only untimed race allowed for credit is the Bernie Jurale Tradition Run in Meriden.
- Permits and Insurance: Races typically require permits and insurance, but the Society does not verify these. That responsibility belongs to the race director.
- Group Runs: Informal group runs that are not officially organized do not count.
- The race must be timed by the Race Director or a third party timing company, and all timed participants must be reflected in the official results.
- Self timed races do not count.
- Hand timed races are eligible if times are recorded, verified by the RD or designated timers, and posted publicly.
- A timer may also participate, but only in a wave they are not responsible for timing.

- Variable distance events (such as 6 hour ultras) are eligible if you complete at least 1 mile and are listed in the official results.
- Races may have age or gender qualifications, but must also be open to the general public.
- If a race ends early due to emergencies or weather, credit is given if you finished and received an official time for the modified distance before the event stopped.
- If you cannot complete a race due to injury, you may decide whether it counts. Many members return for another race.
- If results could not be recorded due to circumstances beyond control but other criteria are met, the race can still count.
- Walking is allowed and eligible for credit.
- In multisport events such as triathlons, duathlons, and obstacle races, credit may be given for the running portion if it meets location and timing requirements.
- For relay races, participants may receive credit based on where the race starts.

Search by name, hometown, final town, member ID, royalty number, or round. Each completed round has its own public certificate button.
Note: because some Royalty records come from older data, some certificates may not include the race name, distance, or race date. Before the new database, that information was not always collected.

Anniversary Run. One Day, 169 Towns.
Every year, members run or walk in their assigned Connecticut town to celebrate the Society's founding.
14th Anniversary, 169 Towns, One Day
We celebrate every year with our annual 169 Towns Run or Walk. Members run or walk at least 1.69 miles in their assigned town, anytime during the day.
This tradition started on our 10th anniversary in 2023, and it has become one of our favorite ways to come together, celebrate our community, and keep the Run 169 mission moving forward.
How the Anniversary Run Works
Our goal is to cover all 169 towns in Connecticut in one day. Members run or walk at least 1.69 miles in their assigned town, anytime between 12:01 AM and 11:59 PM on March 5. The dashboard refreshes every 15 minutes as members submit their towns.
A Tradition That Grew
We started this on our 10th anniversary in 2023. Since then it has become one of our favorite ways to come together, celebrate the community, and keep the Run 169 mission moving forward.
Find Every CT Town Sign
Connecticut places blue signs at the center of each of its 169 towns, typically on the town green. Each sign features a brief history.
About the Blue Signs
Each blue sign features a brief history of the town, making them a fun and educational stop on your running journey through all 169 towns. Signs are typically located on or near the town green. Some towns have the sign in a small park or historic district near the center of town.
Take a moment to read the history on each sign. Every town has a unique story.
History of Run 169 Towns Society
Run 169 Towns Society was established on March 5, 2012, by eight Connecticut runners. The goal connects today’s members with a Connecticut running idea that goes back decades.
How the Society Started
Run 169 Towns Society was established on March 5, 2012, by eight Connecticut runners.
The Society has a rich history tracing back to 2012. What started with a small group of Connecticut runners grew into a statewide running community built around one goal: completing an official race in every one of Connecticut’s 169 towns.
The Original 169 Town Goal
The idea of running a race in each town in Connecticut can be traced back as early as 1977. Rik Villarreal of Prospect was the first to originate this goal.
That early idea helped shape what later became the mission of Run 169 Towns Society. Today, members continue that tradition by exploring Connecticut town by town, race by race, and community by community.
